Panasonic AG-HPX170
HD detail and controlled highlights with an adjustable skate-video grade.
An artistic interpretation of existing artwork; camera and lens names identify the references.

Behind the camera look
The original camera
The handbook identifies HD NORM gamma and NORM1 matrix in the F1 baseline. This interpretation starts from that direction and adds an independent contrast finish; it does not reproduce every scene-file curve. [1]
Our interpretation
HD detail and controlled highlights with an adjustable skate-video grade. Numerical response and optical coefficients are authored approximations, reviewed on the same diagnostic and licensed photographic inputs.
Evidence and limits
The clean baseline follows the documented HD NORM/NORM1 scene-file direction. The inspected uploads do not establish complete scene settings or a matched color response. The Venice skate photograph compares implemented effects on one source; it is not a matched capture from this camera.

Creative applications
- Give street and skate photographs a consistent video-derived treatment.
- Combine camera processing and optical distortion as separate effects.
Starting workflow
- Start with an image containing a clear subject and useful highlight detail.
- Place Century Optics Xtreme before this effect in a desktop stack.
- Balance Exposure, Color Response, Highlight Response, and Detail; then tune Skate Grade, Noise, and Transfer Texture.
- Keep Frame on Source to preserve the composition, or choose 16:9 to crop inside the canvas.
- Use Mix to compare against the input.
Key controls
- Exposure (EV)
Balance the existing image before grading. Exposure does not recover clipped scene information.
Default: 0 · Range: -2 to 2
- Color Response
Reduce the profile’s saturation and color bias while retaining its capture sampling.
Default: 100% · Range: 0% to 100%
- Highlight Response
Adjust the bounded highlight response. Compare pale skies and bright clothing at the intended output size.
Default: 65% · Range: 0% to 100%
- Detail
Add contour emphasis after the capture filter. Lower it for a softer SD interpretation.
Default: 60% · Range: 0% to 100%
- Noise
Control signal-dependent noise, strongest in darker tones. Zero removes this texture.
Default: 30% · Range: 0% to 100%
- Skate Grade
Adjust the finishing contrast and color treatment. Zero retains the underlying camera interpretation.
Default: 65% · Range: 0% to 100%
- Transfer Texture
Add correlated quantization residue. Zero removes this finishing layer; it is not a full DV or H.264 encoder.
Default: 25% · Range: 0% to 100%
- Seed
Choose a repeatable texture realization. Seed stays manual.
Default: 17 · Range: 0 to 65535
- Variation rate
Zero holds the texture. Enable animation and raise this rate to evolve texture under the composition clock.
Default: 0Hz · Range: 0Hz to 30Hz
- Frame
Source preserves the input frame. The historical option crops coverage inside the existing canvas without resizing the document.
Default: Source · Choices: Source, 16:9
- Mix
Blend the result with the input. Zero is the exact unprocessed input.
Default: 100% · Range: 0% to 100%
Practical tips
- Set Skate Grade, Transfer Texture, and Noise to zero for cleaner capture.
- Compare the same image across the related profiles before choosing a stack.
Limitations
- Processing cannot recreate missing scene content, camera motion, audio, or capture-time interlacing.
- No calibrated color match or physical lens reconstruction is claimed. Earlier grading and compression remain part of the source.
- Manufacturer names identify inspiration; no endorsement is implied.
